The difference is that this is opensource. Nobody is forcing you to
switch from perl 5 - it's there, it's portable, it's ready for you
to fix bugs if you're the only one using it 20 years from now.

While I agree that for a company to drop support of one thing in
favor of another costs lots of money to their clients, this is not
the same thing. Hell, it's not even the same ballpark. You are not
getting less. You are getting the same thing, except that people who
may have been interested in helping out perl 5 have grown tired of
it, and feel like doing something else.
